Resort Contruction
The resort was under construction, not due to hurricane Maria just upgrades being done to improve the amenities.
However, we were not notified ahead of time and very poor compensation from Hotel Management.
Overall my wife and I were NOT satisfied whatsoever with this experience. I will definitely be sending Corporate Marriot a very detailed letter with attached photos of how unpleasant my stay and atmosphere was for the week at their Resort.
Stayed 4 nights, pool still under construction, should have some music to drown out noise ,beach full of seaweed 3 out of 4 days there. Room was clean, could definitely use some touch ups here and there but with price from cheap Caribbean it was a steal. Staff was always courteous. Food was good at beach and pool,as well as service, drinks so so for the price.Even
though I always enjoy the San Juan area, it still is very urban feeling so
not the best place if you're looking for that postcard tropical paradise, beach, ocean, neighborhood all need a lift.

Beautiful
Great location. Great hotel. Great service. The sand at the beach was very soft. The waves a little rough. The food at the hotel is expensive but it was tasty. I wish we had been told that one of the pools was closed due to reconstruction following last year’s hurricane. I feel it was false advertising. The one pool was wonderful and had the bar and slide.
We wanted to show our support to Puerto Rico through our tourism dollars and we were not disappointed. The room and service at the Marriott were fantastic and the view from our ocean front room was sublime. A section of the pool was still under repair, but we preferred the beach. We found that the Marriott had the best stretch of sand in the area and Pedro was quick to set up our umbrellas every afternoon. Though you can still observe signs of Maria, Puerto Rico was open and ready for business -- terrific restaurants, tours and attractions.

vacation rates for sgle travelers3 answers
If traveling alone, does that mean I must pay double the advertised price (double occupancy). I am looking at your advertisment for San Juan Puerto Rico $399 4n+air
7 years, 90 months ago
DixieChix
Single traveller pricing is not necessarily double the special advertised pricing. Most resorts do charge a single supplement fee, which would make the pricing a bit higher than the pricing would be per person if you were travelling with another guest. However, it does vary, and you would be best to check on our web site for the specific pricing. In order to price a single traveller, you would just need to change the number of guests to 1 when pricing out packages on our site.
KristinCC
i don't think that it is fair but I would try to find somebody to go with since it is not fun to go by yourself.

Whats the best hotel for a Honeymoon in Puerto Rico?7 answers
We would like to go to Puerto Rico in September of 2012 after our wedding and would like the best place to stay to do so.
7 years, 90 months ago
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. We have many properties in Puerto Rico which would be perfect for a honeymoon. Some of them are right in San Juan, and others are more secluded and are great for "getting away from it all". You can search all of our properties which are available during your travel dates by going to our website at www.cheapcaribbean.com. The orange box on the left allows you to plan your own vacation by selecting your outbound airport, destination, dates of stay, number of travellers, etc. Once submitted all our available properties will come up and you can narrow your choices according to your specific desires. You can also do a "Quick Search" , below the large orange box-simply select 'Search by Destination" and all properties in Puerto Rico will be displayed. Please keep in mind that many of our properties do not have the 2012 special rates loaded yet so you may want to wait till after Jan. 1 to get accurate pricing. However you are certainly able to compare properties and amenities in the interim.

We are just back from 5 days at the San Juan Marriott and I give it my highest recommendation. I don't know what sorts of features you are looking for in a hotel, but this hotel is everything it claims to be.
volleymom
My Wife and I just got back from San Juan Marriot on September 28, 2011. The Marriot was great. You have a star bucks across the street. Walgreens is just a block away from the Marriot as well as resturants and stores, all located walking distance. The beach wasn't the cleanest, cigarette butts here and there. But I would stay there again.
Cop34
Sarah,
We just came back, and this hotel would not be my recommendation. However, if you want to go to Puerto Rico, https://honeymoons.about.com/od/puertorico/p/la_concha_resor.htm
This above link is to La Concha resort which for us, is much better than the Marriott which is where we stayed. It is more active, nicer, cleaner, music all night and we ate at La Perla for our anniversary and it was great, but expensive. I would certainly not go to the Marriott for my wedding.
JoeMontreal
i would recommend Marriott Stelaris because the place is clean, they have the best beach compared to nearby hotels and walking distance to restaurants and bars. Closed to Old San Juan(lots of places to see) which is accessible by bus which is only $.75 cents one way

This is a GREAT location for a romantic getaway. Go for it!
Xplizit
While we were at the Marriott, we met two couples on their honeymoon. Both couples had the same fun experience that we did while there in early December. There are bigger resorts on the island but they come with a higher price tag. We were able to rent a car and drive all of the way around the island in a day. Next time we plan to stay a few days at two different resorts so we can experinece both sides of the island
Cubaray
Please read my current review! We just got back from the San Juan Marriott and really enjoyed it! Highly recommended and very convenient.

what is the best hotel for a wedding that includes the bride and groom1 answer

Deb
We have many properties to choose from and of course your selection is based on your specific needs. The San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino is a lovely option, located in the Condado region . This location offers both beach and town activities for your guests. The El Conquistador Resort is farther away from the airport but is a lovely setting for a wedding. Please feel free to contact one of our Beach Experts if you require assistance in narrowing your options.

How much does food cost off of the resort? Thx!9 answers
5 years, 68 months ago
Ny
There are many different restaurants around Puerto Rico. Because prices can vary, we do not have access to see what those prices are. If you would like to call the resort and see what is close by and maybe get some information online, their number is 1 787 722 7000. Thank you.
RobinCC
It varies depending on what you are looking for. One very reasonable recommendation I have is "Latin Star" it is about a block from the hotel and is open 24 hours. The prices were extremely reasonable and most of the food we enjoyed was freshly prepared. The waitresses are very sweet and speak very little English. Service here as in many other places in PR is slow but coming from New York I relished a more relaxed experience. Breakfast went for about 6 dollars a person. I have eaten lunch/dinner three times during my stay and breakfast twice. Some of myTheir Cafe con leche was delicious too. You will hear and read many different reviews but it is definitely worth at least one visit which may turn into more.
Lovetotravelxoxo
Normal prices.. We found breakfast for as cheap as $3.75 per person. Dinner at nice restaurants averaged about $20-30 per person.
dePloi
Almost everything within walking distance is about the same price as the resort. You need to drive or take a cab to find food at non-tourist prices.
HacimK
Reasonable
Docitsko
There are a variety of options in dining outside of the resort -from fast food like Wendy's, to pizza, to fine dining, so you can make it fit most any budget.
joysee77
Food prices vary, but much cheaper than the hotel food.
xq50fen
Nicer restaurants are about $20-25 for a dinner. Otherwise I'd say about 15-20.
Traveler0987
typical tourist restaurant prices - about the same as eating out in any USA city.

Is there an adults only pool area?7 answers
5 years, 62 months ago
Virginia
According to the information included on our website, there resort has multiple sundecks studded with tall palm trees, cushioned lounge chairs, hammocks, and cabanas surround a 2-level pool complex, featuring a large children's pool and a spacious activity pool with swim-up bar. A 90-foot spiral waterslide connects the pools. Guests have access to complimentary towels and umbrellas (based on availability).
MariaCC
None that I know of
Roberta09
No
Docitsko
No adults only pool. The waterslide goes directly into the pool where most adults are because of the pool bar. For a hotel this big pool is kinda small.
xq50fen
No, both pools are shallow and utilized by children.
The pool with the swim up bar has a water slide attached to it and stays busy with kids all day long.
Kids are even in the Hot Tub even though the signs say no kids permitted.
Miggles315
There is a children's pool area (about 1 foot deep) and a separate area that is a little deeper with a swim up pool bar with stools in the water. Small children probably wouldn't go in there but teens do. There is no "enforcement" of the separated areas.

How far is the hotel from the airport? Is there a shuttle? How much would a cab typically cost?10 answers
5 years, 61 months ago
lifesabeach
Located five miles from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU). Approximate driving time is 12 minutes.
For specific information on pricing, please call our Beach Experts at 1-800-915-2322.
SueCC
15 minutes from airport. Shuttle is available . Don't know price of cab.
Docitsko
Its about a 15-20 minute ride from the airport to the hotel. I'd suggest using a transport service because when we arrived the taxi lines at the airport were quite long. I am guessing the cab ride is at least $20. The transport service was $18 pp and our driver was waiting for us when we got off the plane. I think the name of the company we used was GO Puerto Rico, but if you Google, you'll find options.
joysee77
The airport is about 10-15 minutes away. Most cab rides were between $15-$17 one way. (Took cab to Old San Juan and Isla Verde)
sherrera
I paid $19 for 2 bags and 2 people. Its about 4 miles away and takes about 15 minutes.
xq50fen
The hotel is about 10-15 min from the airport. Cabs are a flat rate. It costs $17 to go to the hotel. I don't think shuttles are available.
Traveler0987
Hotel is about 15 mins from airport. Taxi Price is a fixed rate from airport to hotel. $15.00 + $1.00 per bag + $2.00 gasoline surcharge. There is no shuttle - taxi is very reasonably priced.
PinaColadaMojito
The hotel is about a 15 min taxi ride, there is no shuttle but the taxi ride is only $20 and they are readily available at the hotel and the airport
Rlnorris2
No shuttle. Taxi was $19. I recommend that you rent a car, it's $20 per day to park but the average taxi ride to desired places like old san juan, the mall etc. will cost you $15 dollars one way so its more economical and it's easy to get to.
shadiyah
We took a cab and it was approx $20 plus $1 per bag...so we paid $25-$30 with tip. The airport is really close so it was only a 10-20 min trip depending on traffic. No shuttle needed because there are so many taxis available and less expensive than any shuttle.

How's the beach?3 answers
The beach is very important to us. How's the beach at this location? Soft sandy? How's the surf? We like waves, but not too rough. Is the beach area large? Chairs provided, etc.?
Can you charge drinks to your room from the beach?
Thanks!
4 years, 49 months ago
Friday
Most reviews of the beach tend to be positive (soft sand in a part of Puerto Rico that is usually rocky). The biggest complaint we see is that shadows may be cast which force you to move around a bit.
CCGreg
The beach is nice at this location. The sand is generally soft, however, if you walk further from the hotel area beach, you might encounter some rocks or rough sand. We had a red flag (dangerous waves) the entire time we were there, but that didn't stop our boys (12 and 16) from going into the water. The beach area is decent size and chairs and umbrellas are provided. You can also charge drinks to your room.
BeachLover733
The beach area is nice and large at this resort. There are lots of waves but not too rough. Chairs & umbrellas are provided and set up for you at your request. You can charge drinks, food, and parking to your room.
