RIU Vallarta Resort

Really enjoyed the resort. Pools and beach were awesome. Drinks are served poolside via a cart and the individuals serving the drinks had wonderful personalities There were plenty of dining options. The buffet was good and had a large variety of options.. The steak house was not very good. The Italian restaurant was good and had a better streak than the steak house. The staff works very hard and are there to meet your every need. Overall, we had a great time at this resort.

Visited between Thanksgiving and Christmas

We have stayed at the Riu Vallarta three times now and each time the experience has been better. Its a beautiful place right on the beach with good amenities (I like the free water kayaking). I would recommend getting a room facing out rather than in the courtyard as it can be loud. If you're not a fan of styrofoam pillows, you might want to bring your own. Beds are firm, which I like. Each room has a small balcony which is nice for smoking a cigar at the end of the day. Most of the food options are good to very good. The Asian Restaurant left something to be desired. Plenty of food options in the buffet. Depending on when you go, the buffet can get VERY crowded and can feel a bit like a free for all. Overall the staff does a good job to make your stay easy and memorable. I reccomend bringing single dollar bills for tip money after meals and when ordering drinks in any of the bars. Even one dollar means a lot.

Relaxing vacation

We had a wonderful time at this resort. The staff is amazing and always a smile on their faces. The grounds are beautiful and clean. No problem getting chairs at the beach (noticed the pool chairs get taken up quickly) but we are beach folks so never had an issue. The beach water was super warm. No big waves until the afternoon, when the wind would pick up. There is always food available, and so many choices that you can always find something to eat. There was a theme most of the nights so there would be some type of preshow in the plaza area and there is always some type of entertainment, so you never bored! My only complaints.....the sports bar needs to include better snacks, especially since this is only bar open 24 hrs - they had refrigerated hotdogs/burgers/sandwiches you could heat up in microwave. Not the most appealing to eat but when all other areas are top notch, guess you expect this bar to have the same amenities. But my son still did enjoy hanging with the younger crowd at this bar The worst part of our stay was our room, specifically our bed! We can overlook the older room since we don't spend alot of time in room. But the beds are the hardest beds I've ever slept on, and the pillows were so bad, we had headaches when we woke up. First night thought I wouldn't notice since I was so tired but we did have a hard time sleeping the whole week. Good news is we heard they were closing for 3 months in Sept to renovate so hopefully they will get new beds! Overall highly recommend this resort - especially if they get new beds!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The resort's Art Deco architecture hugged by epic palms that rises up from the sandsational beach.

The liquor dispensers in the rooms. It's a party. Just add people.

The stress-ousting treatments at the world-class, delicious spa. Unplug and unwind.

RiuLand - supervised fun for the little ones while you savor that beachtastic drink by the teal waves.

Teeing off at the 18-hole, championship golf course that's right next door.

The RiuFit program that includes backfit, aquagym, stretching and bums-legs-tums.

Dancing the night away at the Pacha nightclub - get ready for some head-sweatin'.

What We'd Change

Downtown Puerto Vallarta's shopping and nightlife are quite a drive, but Nuevo Vallarta marina is a closer alternative that's just as much fun.

Why You Should Go

The airport is a mere 15 minutes from the airport so you'll be on that sweet beach lickety split.

Be sure to visit Cuale Island, a shady and tranquil oasis, to shop for crafty, cool souvenirs.

Banderas Bay is brimming with animal fun: see the release of sea turtles & swim with dolphins.

Get up early to snag a beach lounger. They go fast.

You can go horseback riding in the Sierra Madres, a bucket-list-worthy thing to do.

If you're more adventurous, there's bungee jumping. Hang on!

There are oceans of water sports: bodyboarding, kayaking, windsurfing and more. Take the plunge.
