Great Resort- Bad Smell

The resort is beautiful and dining options diverse and delicious. We especially loved the Delores Market which is a food court of delectable items. Our room and view of the Gulf was also amazing. Our concerns were the prevalent noxious, sulfur, egg smell wafting from one side of the resort. It was awful and seemed to be coming from the marsh/swamp area on one side of the resort. Also the beach was overrun with seaweed and was not swimmable. We will not return for last two reasons.

BE CAREFUL

First, do not get the transportation package that is afflicted through cheap carribean/ the resort because they over charge you almost double !! It was the first time we did not do the pre paid transportation package and it was the best idea because when you land at the cancun airport. right when you are about to exit, there are plenty of taxis waiting to bring you to your destination. We were 4 passengers and super shuttle offered to take us roundtrip to our resort for $68 in a private car !! Our driver was so nice and sweet and got us to where we needed to go. I highly recommend this than paying extra through any other site. I stayed here for a week with my family at the ventus location. I was surprised since I did not know el cid was connected to this resort so for half my stay we went to the pool in ventus. We were wondering why it was so quiet and later saw that all of the fun and games happened in the el cid main pool. This was a little bit of a hassle since we would have to take a trolley to the resorts pool however if you went to the concierge they would happily take you. At first all the young boys at the concierge were so nice and polite, we would tip them every time they gave us a ride to any place around the resort. However when we were leaving our pickup time for the super shuttle to pick us up was 2:30. We were waiting there until 3pm and our car still had not arrived. The young boys at the concierge took the number of our car company and gave them a "call" to let them know we were waiting for them. Another half an hour passed and we decided to call for ourselves. When the super shuttle finally came we came to realize that we were tricked that entire time. The young boys at the concierge were making calls to the el cid location since the car went there instead of ventus and they told him to stay there while we were waiting at the ventus location. The concierge boys are very conniving and can NOT BE TRUSTED.They told us there had been an accident on the road and our ride was on the way, however when we finally got to talk to the driver we came to find out there had been no accident at all. The accident was a lie made up by the concierge boys. They thought we would not be able to figure it out since our spanish is limited however, they underestimated us. They try to make it seem like they are helping you but they aren't !! They do these types of things so that people would make bad reviews on transportations services such as super shuttle to make it seem as if they don't pick up their passengers when in fact our car DID arrive but the concierge misguided them. It is even more upsetting that we would always tip the concierge however they still did this. This just goes to show you not to trust anyone not even hotel workers. They wanted us to buy the car service from the hotel instead since that would grant them a $15 bonus each. This encounterment we had at the end of our stay made us not want to visit ventus el cid anymore. I will NOT recommend this resort to any of my friends because of how bad we were lied too when we were leaving. The names of the bell boys were Jesus, Kevin and Misial so WATCH OUT FOR THEM, they are money hungry. Thank god we left at an earlier time because if not we would have missed our flight and would have ended up paying another unnecessary $80 to use that hotels transportation. On the other hand this resort is mostly for older people who want to relax since there is little to no entertainment.

Unsatisfactory conditions

Upon arrival, we were with a group of 24. This was a family/friends vacation and we all were told we would have rooms nearby to each other. Well, all but one family was in the same building. When questioned, the hotel could care less. They stated that there were no more "family" rooms in the same building as the other members of our party. There is issue number 1. The family rooms are the exact same size as other rooms. The difference is, the family room contains 2 full beds and a murphy bed. The STANDARD room contains either 2 queen beds OR a king bed and a murphy bed. Well - the king and murphy actually sleep more than the "family" room. We explained that our family would prefer to stay with the rest of the group and just utilize the King and murphy. We were told it was not accepted practice and we could not, even though we explained we were willing to pay the family room rate. Traveling with a large group can be challenging, but making even more challenging was the fact that the resort made reservations for the entire group knowing we had several children under the age of 12. Doesnt sound like a huge deal, but children under 12 are not allowed in restaurants after 730 pm, and every single reservation made for us was 8pm or later. We were turned away several times, and the resort was unwilling to assist us in alternate accommodations. Additionally, we had reservations at French restaurant. We were turned away at the door because a member of our party did not have pants, even though there was NO MENTION of pants being required anywhere. AND when explaining to the management team, they had zero empathy. did not care. were NOT accommodating in the least. Ended up having to go to a store and spend additional money to but a pair of pants to enter. Not a huge deal; however, when entering, we saw several children (which were not supposed to be allowed) with shorts and flip flops patronizing the same restaurant! There were several other incidents that left a bad taste in our mouths. We booked a boat excursion that we could not take because it was horrendous weather, yet we were not refunded any money even though the resort acknowledged it was not safe out on the water at the time. All of this is bad enough, but the worst part is how awful the resort itself was. Our room smelled horrible. The seaweed was so bad that the beaches were basically unusable. I would have hoped the seaweed would have been cleaned daily, but that was not the case at all. It was worse every day. I went to Mexico on the premise that the beaches were beautiful and it would be a stress free vacation... NOTHING could be further from the truth. I would not recommend this resort to anyone... even if they paid you to visit.
