Good value for the price

I was very hesitant after reading the many reviews but I was pleasantly surprised after going to the Sunscape in P.V. it is not a 5 star experience for sure but then again I didnt pay a 5 star price. The staff was absolutely amazing, always there to offer another drink. The food was just ok, the food at the Italian restaurant was pretty good. You have to remember the food is different since it is Mexico so don't expect what you're used to in the U.S The beach was great and the pool was lots of fun. Overall we had a great time Some people just like to complain about everything. This is a great place for those on a budget.

Two weeks at Sunscape

The resort staff were all attentive to our needs and were there to ensure we had a good trip. Best Super Bowl presentation we've ever experienced! Went overboard for the game day festivities!

Good time!

The resort was lovely as high-rise hotels go. We prefer smaller, more intimate settings. There was too much emphasis on wanting to sell time-shares and condos disguised as freebies we didn't want. There was a policy of "do not reserve beach or pool chairs" but there were towels positioned on the chairs early. We never did get to use a pool chair that was shaded. Most were in the direct sun. Once an employee did find us a shaded beach chair - he removed the towels that someone had just left when they left the area. That was nice because it's hard for a guest to know if someone is just in the water or has left the area. Overall, we had a nice time. The hotel did not attempt to put traveling couples near each other in the hotel despite a request when booking. Also, it would be helpful for you or the hotel to provide tipping guidelines for an all-inclusive resort. Servers, omelet makers, bellboys, maids, people calling cabs, cab drivers, etc. all seemed to have their hand out for tips. Some people tipped, other didn't, It was difficult to know what to do. (Exception: we left a tip on the card with the maid's name and she left it. We later repeated that and she accepted it.) Service wasn't consistent - some times beds were turned down in the evening and the next day's program left and other times nothing.

It's a nice 3 star

I was upset on my first day. But it's important to say that the only reason I was upset was that I was expecting a 4 star resort as promised by my purchase of the "deal of Fortune" package. This is not a 4* resort. Here are the things that I think keep it from being a 4 star resort in no particular order. Room had two small beds, average comfort Thin towels that were rough to the touch No robe or house shoes Creeky, sagging door covered the frig The fridge was never restocked Had to pay for internet in the room Shower head needed maintenance Room had a few items that needed aesthetic maintenance It was a "holiday inn" style and size room One of the two elevators was down the entire week We are in good shape and used the stairs. Alot. 4th floor There was always a line. Restaurant or bar The number of rooms vs. services was to blame The buffet was average at best Desert selection and quality was only good at 2 restaurant They boast 6 restaurants but there are only 3 open at a time. They boast 3 bars....but there are only 3 bartenders The pool and beach are crowded I can't comment on the services for kids as we didn't have any kids. General architecture and cleanliness were just ok. It was open air, lots of local marble and has lots of open space. The details need maintenance and the furniture needs updating. The corridors to the rooms were dark. Service was ok. Some of the staff were great, others were overworked and you could tell. The gym was well below average, especially for a 4 star, but had a great view. Finally, the "deal of Fortune" promises a 4 star resort. This is NOT a 4 star resort. That is my only real complaint. This is a nice 3 star resort. I would stay here again......but my expectations would be in check. When I told cheapcarribean that I had an issue, they were fairly attentive and quick to respond.....then offered to move me to a 4 star resort for an additional $3000 which was more than my initial cost....by a lot. I wasn't happy about that at all, but I refused to ruin my anniversary vacation over it. I was glad they had responded quickly so I could put it behind me and choose to make the best of it. This was our third time buying the deal of Fortune package. The first was AMAZING and the second was nice. I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

What's to Love

Family-friendly check-in Hollywood style - red carpet stairs and yummy welcome treats.

Resort passports that send the kids on their own adventure.

With the Sierra Madres & Banderas Bay as the resort's backdrop, your selfies are going to break the Internet (hey, they might!)

Spa luxuries like a Chocolate Body Wrap or a blowout that will make your hair shine.

Golden sandy beaches where you can kayak, windsurf or kick back while the kids make sand castles.

The kids will love the waterslide at the pool!

The Marina Vallarta Golf Club is within walking distance to the resort. Hopefully you won't be yelling "Fore!" too much!

What We'd Change

Booking a Sun Club room would have given us a few more perks that we would've liked, especially room service at night. The kids were completely worn out from all the fun in the sun, and ordering in would have been a treat! Luckily, the restaurant let us take food to-go!

Why You Should Go

You'll have a drink in your hand in no time since it's only 10 minutes from the airport.

El Malecon is nearby with shops, restaurants/bars, art, & clowns performing tricks. (not the scary kind).

Surfs up at the Punta Mita surfing school where the whole family can take on the waves.

You can rent a boat and check out the famous Love Island at the Marietas.

Historical San Sebastian is a short drive away.

Swimming with the dolphins is a must and in the right season, the whale watching will blow your mind.
