Imagine yourself here: you're chillaxin' by the cerulean Sea of Cortez. Behind you sits a resort, one overflowing with the beauty and elegance of colonial Mexico. You dip your toes into the sand, beckoning it to massage, rehabilitate, your worn-out tootsies as a waft of sweet sea air washes over you. You take a sip of your mojito and realize, all your worries have vanished. What caused this?

BEST IDEA EVER
Could not be happier with our vacation. Cheap Caribbean made our vacation the absolute best. They took care of everything flight, transportation and booking the hotel. Everything went seamless and without errors. I was skeptical at first, especially when we had two flight change emails. I can’t wait to book another vacation. Thank you cheap Caribbean
We just returned from an early anniversary celebration trip at Dreams Los Cabos September 22-28. Note we went during the off season since it’s hurricane season so this could be a factor.
Preferred Club
Pro: for not much more this is a nice perk to have. You get access to the special club with top shelf liquor, private concierge and food throughout the day. My husband also got buckets of Corona delivered to him at the pool which isn’t something non-club members usually get.
Con: they don’t do a bracelet system so until you provide your room number no one knows you are preferred. Once the staff knows though, they remember so I still think it’s worth it!
Food
Pro: there’s 5 restaurants on property and a coffee shop. We thought all the food was delicious- better than most all inclusives we’ve been to. We enjoyed them all. No reservations needed for any of them and we didn’t have to wait to be seated ever.
Con: portions are small, so ensure you order double of things if you are hungry.
Property and staff
Pros: clean, well maintained. Right next to the ocean so beautiful view and breeze. Room was clean with multiple services a day, great service! Property not too large so getting from one side to the other isn’t a big deal.
Cons: main pool could use some maintenance but it’s still enjoyable. Adults only pool was quiet and relaxing.
Notable mention- the spa! As part of my booking I got coupons to use, so I applied $40 to a 100 min massage and then more towards a facial. I thought the spa was top notch and worth the splurge. Pricing to me was much lower than I would have paid at other resorts.
Beautiful resort. Rooms, grounds, common areas, lobby, everywhere sparkling clean and well maintained. Employees are friendly, happy and welcoming. Food delicious and beautifully prepared. Beach and pool service exceptional. Had a massage and facial in the beautiful spa, and both were quite good. Spa tip: don’t pay full price: Ask for the special of the day. The discount is better than the “coupons” you are given at check in
Only slight downside: Some pressure to attend their “not a time share” presentation. Although they asked several times, would back off when declined.
Request for a room on top floor, closest to ocean, was ignored. Given a ground floor room in middle of resort.
That said, absolutely wonderful, relaxing experience!
Upon arrival, the resort is beautiful and service to and from the airport was easy. Our group paid for Preferred on the resort and we were excited for our stay. We were escorted to the Preferred check in area, which was impressive, only to quickly be disappointed.
Booking: We requested 2 rooms each with double beds and adjoining or near each other if possible.
Concierge advised that not only did they not have any Preferred rooms available, the rooms were on opposite sides of the resort AND one had a single King bed. After 2 hours, several requests to speak to a manager only to have a person "pretend" to be manager, we were put in the rooms they had available. Honestly, after traveling all day and going back and forth for 2 hrs we were tired and wanted to start our vacation. Going back and forth with the staff was exhausting, maybe that was a tactic?
The next day, the group in the single bed room moved to a floor down from the other room. The resort did nothing to compensate us for the extra money we spent to get Preferred rooms. They only placed blame on the booking company and said there was nothing they could do.
Service: Service was hit or miss. Sometimes you'd get great/attentive service other times you're sitting at dinner for 2 hours in a nearly empty restaurant. When service was good, it was great and made your experience lovely. ie...Our girls group made up our drink and gave it a name, several servers remembered the "Brandie Bay" and we were able to order without always giving them the instructions. If you don't ask for Top Shelf liquor, they will pull bottles from under the bar to make your drinks.
DO NOT pay extra for Preferred. The bars all stock the exact same liquor. Only one bar, Rendevouz at the front lobby had a bottle of top shelf vodka that wasn't at other bars. It wasn't until we pointed that out that the next day the Preferred bar had a few new "top shelf" bottles. Even still, no one verifies that you are preferred and outside of going into the Preferred lounge there is no difference throughout the resort. Basically everyone has access to the same things whether you paid for preferred or not. Again, not every bar even have the Top Shelf bottles available. Unless you want to run to the Preferred Lounge or Lobby Bar for every drink, choosing to stay here means you are OK with drinking what they have available. It's not a make or break for me, however again when you PAY for something extra and don't get it or it's a hassle to get it, it's annoying.
Activities on the resort were fun, when they had them. The resort wasn't full at all, so nights at the club were what you made them. We had fun, but I think overall only maybe 10 people or so was in there all night.
Overall, it's a beautiful resort however the hit or miss service alongside of the fact that we paid for rooms we didn't receive with NO attempt to make it right. We would have been open to a spa credit, credit towards an excursion, anything other than "this is what we have". There were no apologies leaves it VERY DIFFICULT to highly recommend this resort.
Additionally - we received a promotion which gave us a spa credit once we booked the resort, and it is basically null and void if you don't plan on paying for a massage package, which is substantially more than you would pay at any luxury resort. It felt like a bait tactic to use the spa,but you cannot use it for mani/pedi/facial or anything OTHER than a massage package and the hotel will not make exceptions.
Again - they blamed it on booking through a third party site.
Dining Experience: Again, hit or miss. The Steak Place and Italian place were by far the best. I enjoyed my meal at the French restaurant, but my friends all had a miss there. The seafood restaurant was terrible. I've never had scallops that tasted like claims ever before in life. Disappointing since we are literally right by the ocean. Alongside that, the service there was sub par.
Buffet had so many options, it was easy to find something to please everyone.
I have to mention the dreaded timeshare, "not a time share" experience. We all knew better - but we got enticed by the 80% off. We knew we would regret it, and we did. After several hoops we got our excursions. I place part of that blame on us, as we knew better. The final deal they offered did sound enticing but the "not a time share" employees were so rude by that time and considering the hit or miss service why would we buy into the dream? One lady advised, that they will treat you differently if you are a member. Really?? We paid a good amount of money and should expect the standard service, regardless of being a member or not. Any other place I've gone to typically provides the same service to everyone. When I go to a Large Hotel Chain as a preferred member I expect extras, ie..room upgrades, etc... When I book with the same Large Hotel Chain and forget to add my member number, I get the same service, just without the extra upgrades and points.
Apparently ,that is not the philosophy at Dreams.
Again, that was our bad - however when we went to book the excursion, we didn't ask many questions. And, in hindsight, we should have because, guess what, the excursion we wanted wasn't even available due to a mechanic error on the boat!!!
Not a Dreams issue, but I'd rather pay full price any day than be experience the rude behaviors/comments from the "not a time share" team.
I question whether I would go back - Vacation is what you make of it and we had a great time. However, giving Dreams a second chance to make it right is highly questionable.

I have 15 year old boy twins, has anyone been to his hotel with teenage boys and can you tell me if there was plenty for them to do?8 answers

Dandy Dad
Dreams resorts are considered very family friendly. In addition to the numerous excursions available off the property, their all inclusive plan includes kayaking, volleyball, ping pong, and a number of other activities to keep your teenagers occupied!
KateCC
It depends on how long you stay. It has swimming, ping pong horse shoes, pool, excercise machines, beach, putting green.
There is fishing in Cabo and San Jose as well as Zip Lines and ATVs. There are many other activities in the general area.
NWRiver
There are plenty of activities for all ages to do at the resort. In the town, there's even more to do. They have snorkeling, diving, swim with dolphins outside of the resort. At the resort, they have beach volleyball, water volleyball, bocci ball, movies on the beach nightly, nightly entertainment for all ages, putting green, can arrange golf trips, horseback riding right outside the complex, and many other activities that are too many to remember. I think your family would enjoy their stay very much.
Memphis1962
IMO, no. I just camed back from my trip and the resort has minimal activites, it is even boring for adults. My recommendation is Riu which we have been in Costa Rica, they have entertainment and aciti vites throughout the day but you may want to verify that with others who have kids.
waterseeker
While I really like Dreams, I'm not sure it will be a big hit with 15 year olds.
Most activities, fishing, ziplining, ATV etc. have to be accessed via a shuttle. The beach at the resort is non-swimming, and again you shuttle (at added expense) to surfing and swimming beaches. You really cannot walk anywhere from the Dreams Resort, and cabs are expensive.
We talked about our 17 year old coming along on a future trip and thought she would not be happy.
Despite this it is a really great resort.
CityKid
There is tennis, a gym, a nightclub (although we never went to it and I have no idea of age requirements for that). There is also a little putting green for golfing, and sand volleyball. They have entertainment staff that encourage people to participate in all of those activities as well as a daily water volleyball game in the pool.
However, I will say that, at least when we were there, I didn't see any teenage boys. I brought my 17 year old daughter and she loved it, but our only plan was to relax by the pool and purposely not do anything. It was perfect for that! Most of the kids we saw were 10 or younger. None in their teens.
anonymousMI
the kids club was boring even for my 9 year old, however the pool is pretty fun and my kids never got bored even after 4 days in a row. If you want to keep your kids entertained you should plan on scheduling plenty of activities away from the resort such as snorkeling, dolphin swim, atv, zip line, etc.
dovelle
It appeared that all the kids were having fun

Can this resort accomodate a family with 3 children?2 answers
My husband and I have three children ages 7, 6 and 3. Can this resort accommodate us? Or, would we have to pay for 2 rooms?
8 years, 99 months ago
Gayle
Hi Gayle,
Thank you for your question. It can be a challenge travelling with three children. This particular resort has a maximum occupancy requirement and only allows a max of 4 people in the room. If you would like to stay at this resort it would be necessary to book two rooms. Please feel free to call one of our experienced destination specialists for available options at alternative resorts which may be able to accomodate all of you in one room.
ccsusan1
Gayle,
You and your family will fit into any room you choose. Request a roll away and you will be fine., ENJOY! This is a beautiful resort. One thing you can not swim at this beach the under current is really bad.

The resort does have umbrellas on the beach but they are first come first serve.
DanielleCC
If you get to the pool ealy enough, you can get an umbrella. Or, if you go to the "adult" pool, shade takes over pretty early in the afternoon due to the position of the buildings and the pool.
BradandRachel
Yes, there were a lot of pool side umbrellas and very easy to find shade if you wanted it.
anonymousMI
There was several umbrellas available, but the children's pool, does fill up fast. We did not have any issues with getting an umbrella everyday.
Kellirob
Yes! I'm sure if you let them know they will accommodate your friend the best they can.
akaBurrito
1 umbrella for every 4 seats just about.
Dwitz
Plenty of umbrellas by the pool and on the beach - get there early and stake one out when you go down for breakfast
RBKB
Yes. Many poolside umbrellas and the staff will move them around for you but you should get to the pool area(s) early to claim them.
Cabowow
Yes- however get to the pool early and know the direction that the sun is moving, as the umbrellas don't have the ability to tilt as the sun changes, so you may end up in the sun later on.
I also saw a couple who requested an umbrella and a team brought one out for them, so if you're in the sun this would be an option too! The staff is super friendly and willing to help however they can!

No but because it's hot the water is warm. It feels as if it is.

Casual for most places, except Portofino... It's dress casual. No swimsuits or flip flops.
DTAQ
There is a dress code that is enforced. Men have to wear long pants at the Protofino's restaurant. The other restaurants do not allow men to wear tank tops. For woman, anything pretty much goes, accept bathing suit tops for dinner.
Kellirob
Only for one restaurant. Italian restaurant. It's worth it though. The food is really good.
akaBurrito
1 restaurant of the 5 demands pants, close toed shoes and a collared shirt. The rest are casual.
Dwitz
Some of the restaurants require long pants and collared shirt in the evenings. Only a few. There were always options for dining without dress code.
CoupleOnAnniversaryTrip
Buffet, restaurant by pools you have to have a T-Shirt or Golf shirt. Can wear shorts no flip flops for men. Women can just cover themselves and get in. French & Italian restaurants men have to wear long pants, no jeans. Women can wear just about anything but shorts.
RBKB
There is no dress code for dining except for the French restaurant. They require men to wear long pants or you will be refused entry.
Cabowow
Yes, however it's up to the captain if they want to let you in or not.
For Bordeaux, the fancy adults-only restaurant, bring pants and closed toed shoes, and women typically wear nicer dresses (think cocktail).
Everywhere else, we were able to get in with shorts, flip flops, and my husband typically put on a collared shirt (like a Hawaiian shirt), even if the dress code recommended slightly fancier.

RBKB
From our experience (we went during July), swimming was not allowed at the beach because of the strong currents. They actually have a very hands-on staff in making sure that people don't get too close to the water for safety. If you're looking to enjoy the beach and swim in it, I would consider other resorts/ locations.

24-hour dining options allow gueststo enjoy late night bites at Coco Café (Open 11pm - 6am). Or stay in and order room service. All of this is included in your stay at Dreams Los Cabos. One thing to keep in mind is that dining restrictions may apply, so some high-ticket items may be an additional cost.

Does this mean we can't go in the water really at all, or just can't go offshore into the deeper water, unless scuba diving etc?
I just want to take kiddos on the beach and play in the shallows.
3 years, 42 months ago
Denver, Colorado
We really don't recommend going into the water at all due to the strong undertow, it is extremely unsafe. The shallows may be okay, but again the ocean is very unsafe.
JeannieCC
The beach and water are extremely clean and beautiful. The problem is that the shore drops off quick so the undertow is dramatic. It is not safe to swim. My wife and I walked up to let the waves come in and get our feet wet. But you need to pay attention - the next wave could actually sneak up on you a little higher - and even as an adult, you need to brace and be ready for undertow. I wouldn't let my kids get in there. It is beautiful and the sand is awesome.
Also note - this is true for all the resorts as far as we could see up and Down the coast line there. That seems to be just how it is along that shoreline. There were people offering horse rides and stuff like that along the shore - that looked fun
CoupleOnAnniversaryTrip
way, way to dangerous for kids to even play in the shallows, there really are't shallows as they beach drops off severely near the water that is be why the undertow is so strong. it is actually safer farther out into the water but you should be a fairly strong swimmer to even attempt. Also the sand in Cabo is very rough and my kids complained it hurt there feet.
dovelle
The beach area right in front of the resort is very rough. The waves break right at the shore line. During the day the waves were at least 4-5ft high. It would be a struggle to get out and then back in. I was a little disappointed that we couldn't swim right there, but I was fine with hanging out by the pool. Very enjoyable!
BetsyandSean
It has a strong undertow and a steep drop off
RBKB
You can only go about 5-10 feet, if that, out into the ocean due to undertow.

We stayed at Dreams Los Cabos and all inclusive meant all meals, except for lobster, and all drinks except for bottles of wine (but you can have wine by the glass, they had a house wine). Breakfast was an open buffet like everywhere else and then for lunch and dinner, you could go to any of their 4 or 5 restaurants and eat, the menus didn't even have prices. You could also eat by the pool for lunch if you wanted, there was a barefoot grill next to it and you could take pizzas or burgers with you and sit by the pool.
