Great Service, Awful food

The resort is definitely a bit older, and at times can smell a little funny. The service was fantastic though, from the front desk, to the bartenders and other staff, they were all extremely sweet and helpful. The beach is beautiful, but not the sandy white beach you run on and jump in the water. The shoreline is extremely rocky. However, the snorkeling is absolutely phenomenal. If you're a hang in the water type, I'd choose somewhere else, but if you're a chill of the sand and have drinks brought to me, this is a great place to be. The rest of the vacationers were all very sweet, but definitely a much older crowd than we were expecting. This, however, didn't stop anyone from having an incredible time! One thing that was completely disheartening was the food. THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! We tried every restaurant in the resort and their partner resort. The food was basically inedible. We been asked other guests and they said the same thing. If you absolutely must eat here, opt for the pizza in the Italian restaurant at Sunscape, it's hard to screw up pizza. Needless to say we spent a lot of time and money leaving the resort to taxi into town to get something to eat. On the upside, we had a beautiful room facing the ocean!

Ok for the price

The Secrets Aura was nice. The World Market buffet was not the greatest. The food was pretty much the same every day and seemed like they just kept putting the leftovers out. I wish they would have had themed meals, like Mexican one day Italian the next. The other restaurants were pretty good. The entertainment was a little lacking and tacky. The beach was too rocky and there weren’t enough lounge chairs. We stayed in the preferred area in an ocean front room which was pretty nice. We didn’t receive our extras daily, just three times out of the week (Pringle’s and peanut m and m’s). Considering we were in the preferred area there should have been enough lounge chairs on the beach which wasn’t the case. I’ve stayed at a secrets before and this one was at the bottom of my list. I probably won’t go back there again. Don’t fall for the sales pitch!

Great bang for your buck

Secrets Aura Cozumel is a great value for an all inclusive vacation on the beautiful island. An 'Adults Only' resort results in a handful of honeymoon couples, but mostly older adults. This is not the resort of nightlife. Restaurants were great, pools were clean, landscaping was beautiful. Bring water shoes to enjoy the beach. Our room was adequate, certainly not new. The bed was comfortable and air conditioning worked great. Hot water, clean towels and functional plumbing. Entertainment was enough to keep us interested, but nothing over the top. I would say my only gripe would be the awkward tipping situation. We didn't tip except for things like room service and carrying our luggage, but others were readily tipping and actively pressuring others to tip for every drink ordered at the bar. Bring a pocket full of $1 bills because it seems tipping is common practice.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

As of June 2018 you can bring your furry friend along!

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
