Riu Ocho Rios

This is my families first trip to Jamaica and we loved it! Dunn’s River Falls is a must. We did a package deal where we took a catamaran, which first took us snorkeling and then to Dunn’s River Falls. After the Falls the catamaran became a party where rum punch was served along with juicy patties. It was an amazing experience and my 5 year old son was also able to enjoy himself. In his words, “best vacation ever”. The resort also upgraded our room because we told them we were there to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. We also liked the fact that you didn’t need to make reservations to the restaurants you wanted to eat at. It was first come first serve. The first seating started at 6:30. I would recommend to get there to wait no later than 6:15. The entertainment team was amazing. The pre-shows included crowd participation and they definitely didn’t disappoint. Overall I would definitely recommend this resort.

Provided a Good Family Vacation

Hotel was good for family with 2 teenagers. Economically able to afford 2 rooms at this hotel versus 1 at others in surrounding areas. Frustrating that there is only 1 ATM on the premise and it didn't work most of our stay- bring plenty of cash with you or you will end up paying to get it (cab ride into town). Buffet was good and varied enough from night to night so you didn't have to eat the same thing. Beach was beautiful- white sand and often there were minimal people. Rooms were nice- the key system was outdated so we only had a hard key not a key card. This can be a problem if others in your room don't all want to go to the room at the same time. Housekeeping did an excellent job of cleaning each day and providing towels. There seems to be a shortage of pool towels- for 2 days we were not able to procure towels. Might be a good idea to bring your own beach towels. We were NOT impressed with the excursion coordinator that CheapCaribbean uses in conjunction with this hotel. Amstar is the company and they were not reliable. We actually cut one of our excursions short because we were not told what would be part of the excursion. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Great vacation

The overall trip was great. Their service and employees of the resort were great the resort cleanliness and room cleanliness was amazing. The food I general was great, but I was a bit bothered by the fact that they have a Deluxe Side and a Luxury Side and we could not use certain restaurants that were on that side. I have never been to an all inclusive with that particular scenario happening. The main buffet the food was great but the not a great selection. But overall is was great. I don’t know what the price difference was between deluxe and the luxury but I can imagine it being that much more and if that is the case then that is poor judgment of class’s on the Riu’s behalf.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

There's Red Stripe Beer in the fridge. Every. Day.

The stress-ousting massages and treatments at the Renova Spa. Swoon.

The Jerk Chicken Hut on the beach. You'll be jammin' here ofter. Probably daily.

The phrase you hear everywhere, "No problem, Mon." Go ahead and start practicing.

The epic snorkeling that's right on the beach. Brightly colored fish will make your underwater pics dazzle.

Dunn's River Falls and swimming with the dolphins - close by and always touristy fun.

What We'd Change

The drive to the resort will take about an hour, but once you step foot onto the resort grounds, you'll be in love.

Why You Should Go

It's so worth it to upgrade to the Deluxe Wing - concierge service 24/7.

You can get a free introductory to scuba lesson in the pool. Dive in!

There are water sports out the wazoo - windsurfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

On land, you can play tennis, volleyball and take an aerobics class.

The entertainment team blows it out, starting with the nightly reggae, steel drums & chill beats.

The botanical gardens of Canbrook aren't your average "flower forest." It's uber lush.
