Great Time!

Spent 7 days and had a great time!! The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Please note that I do speak Spanish so it definitely helped to build relationships with the staff. Even though it is all inclusive, tipping goes a long way. I tip everywhere I go, so this was not an issue and it helped to stand out among non tippers. It's common sense that if you want a "little extra attention" then tip. A couple of bucks will ensure Royal treatment. I stayed away from the swim up bars as they tended to get rowdy. There are Tiki huts on the beach that provide shade but they are taken fast. Wake up early and set up camp so you have it all day as you come and go. There were plenty of dining options and bars to choose from and nightly entertainment. The only negative thing that aggravated me had nothing to do with the hotel but with disrespectful guests. Bluetooth speakers are annoying!! I'm fine with them if you keep them at a level where you and your party can hear it. There is no need to blast them so the whole beach can hear your crappy music. Perhaps it's a generational thing. I'm in my mid 40's and found that the 20 somethings were rude and lacked simple common sense and respect. The hotel should have a policy against them. There are plenty of headphone options out there!

Great stay

As being my first time to a RIU property I was truly satisfied about the resort and all its amenities. The rooms where clean and spacious, the food was great and alll the staff was extremely friendly. I would practice on my Spanish though, because a lot of the staff speak very little English. Don’t waste your time at the casino, it’s small and doesn’t have the type of games you would see in Vegas or other high end casinos.

Decent

This resort was decent for the money that we spent. We went to a Secret's for our honeymoon and we were very spoiled. None of the restaurants were sit down; they were all buffet. The vide within the resort was a "party" more than a relaxing one. There was VERY LITTLE name brand liquor which was not good. The staff didn't speak much English so that was also not helpful. With all of this being said, the beach was beautiful and the landscaping in the resort was great.

Honeymoon at the Riu

I highly recommend the Riu Republica! I have been to several all inclusive resorts and this by far was the best one. Their food was amazing, staff was excellent, everything was clean and tidy. Our room was even decorated for our honeymoon. The only two things I have to complain about is the bed and nightly entertainment on the beach side. The bed is very firm and not comfortable, after a week there my back was very sore. This Resort has two sides for entertainment beach and garden. On the beach side, the first night we got there they had a beach party and that was a lot of fun. The remaining nights seem to all be the same type of program with dancing and was not as entertaining. It needed to be changed up a little. Other than those two things, my husband and I were both very happy with this Resort and would go back again!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

A palatial retreat where the mixin' and the minglin' is only with adults - no kids or crying babies at this resort.

You're located on Dominican's Macoa Beach - the mind-boggling ocean views go on for days.

Taking the introductory scuba lesson (it happens in the pool) - you'll be ready for the ocean waters in no time.

The pools are spacious - you won't bump into each other - no one wants to be that close (especially if the bathrooms are faraway).

When you're ready for your next cocktail, all you have to do is just swim on over to the bar.

Detoxing in the steam bath at the gym (all those icky work impurities will stream out of your pores).

The whirlpool bath that makes you feel like a jelly fish.

What We'd Change

The resort is large, but you really don't feel crowded and the restaurants can accommodate everyone easily and there is plenty of room at the pools.

Why You Should Go

So close to the airport you'll land and be at the resort in a flash - you want your vacay to start immediately!

The Mediterranean-style village Altos de Chavon is near - authentic architecture, swoon-worthy boutiques, cafes & more.

Also in Altos de Chavon, check the Amphitheatre for Kandela! - don't miss this Caribbean musical review.

See the lush landscapes at the Punta Cana Ecological Reserve: plants, animals, coral reef, freshwater lagoons & more.

Hone your golf skills and tune up your tennis swing - both are available near the resort.
