This was the best vacation in over 12 years. The resorts is beautiful and the service was excellent. The staff is very friendly and couldn't do enough to make your stay more memorable. They are very detailed oriented. If you're looking to relax and soak in the rays, I strongly recommend this place. The grounds are kept beautifully, and the pools and beaches are kept nice and clean. We were disappointed with the ocean water. It was not clean at all. a lot of sea weed and water was murky, dirty. We were told that it was because it rained for two days before we got there and due to the time of year. (it was out of their control of course). Hopefully when we return at a different time of the year, the waters will be blue (we hope). We were also disappointed with the restaurants for dinner. Breakfast was great at the "Thalassa restaurant". For a five star resort, the food was not good with the exception of one restaurant at Royal, "Cata Tapa". We decided to try the Catalonia Bavaro resort for dinner, next door. Tried these four restaurants; The Italian restaurant's food was basically not edible; "Yuca" was not good at all; and Rodeo (steak restaurant) was merely OK; the buffet was just OK, the food was not hot. I must say, the lunches on the beach were great, cooked perfectly. But they definitely need to improve the quality of food in their restaurants. One last thing that we didn't appreciate was that we were deceived when we got here. We were told that there was a welcoming breakfast the next day, when in reality, it was to try to sale us a membership (like a time share type of thing). We didn't find out until we were on the way there. It lasted two and a half hours. That was not cool. So don't be fooled when you get there and they offer you this "Welcome breakfast". Turn it down unless you're interested in buying it. But overall, we had a great relaxing time at Catalonia Royal Resort. The two front desk staff was very good, Yenna and especially Nelson who took good care of us from the start and was very attentive when we stopped by. We will be returning next year.

Hotel was amazing!!!!!

The hotel was amazing Everything was perfect except the bus AMwas AMSTAR DMC Transportation horrible service. I had to take a cab on my back to the airport because the company didn’t call or tell the front desk that they arrived to pick us up. We were never informed that they were picking us up 5 hrs before. That’s my only complaint about my trip. Don’t use Amstar (TERRIBLE)

Not Impressed

Our trip to the Catalonia Royal Bavaro was my first experience vacationing outside of the US but my wife has traveled to a few Caribbean resorts in the past. However, both of us agreed that it was not as good of an experience as we had hoped. The resort itself was nice and appealing. Pools were nice but the beach was hit and miss due to lots of seaweed/ocean debris. Our main complaint would be the service and the staff. There were very few people that were pleasant to interact with. A few were down right rude. The remainder seemed angry that we were there but acted nice enough to do their job. We had to chase down the maids for clean washcloths, and had to cancel a room service order of fruit & yogurt after waiting 2 hours for it to arrive on our last day. Contrary to other locations my wife has visited, the resort waiters & waitresses at the beach and pool made little effort to keep you stocked with fresh drinks meaning lots of trips to the bar. On the plus side this resort had numerous options for meals and the food was good. All in all we were not impressed and do not feel that our experience at the resort was worth the cost. We will definitely look else where the next time we travel.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive Dominican dream escape.

Chillaxing at the infinity pool with shaded, cushy loungers & hammocks on the beach.

The self-serve Bloody Marys and mimosas at breakfast.

Escaping via the spa: massages by the sea, Turkish baths and sauna.

What We'd Change

Casino Punta Cana closes at midnight, but the resort's club, Cats, and the bar by the pool are both open late for night owls.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 miles from the Punta Cana airport. Vacay cocktails will appear pronto.

Two gorgeous golf courses designed by Alberto Sola are near.

If you're up for meeting up with Lady Luck, there's a casino onsite.

Soana Island is an aahmazing excursion and is relatively near. So worth it.
