You get what you pay for

We were treated promptly at our arrival by Starling who was very sweet and helpful. I can’t say I was impressed by the condition of the resort overall. But atleast the landscaping was well done. Being part of the SunClub I expected more but this resort is nothing more than a 2-3 star. I’d have to say the other reviews on this site are very misleading or...my expectations are too high. Let’s start with the food, and I have to mention my nationality is Dominican, not born there but still. Everything wS very bland and super basic, nothing was authentic except for the mangu but even then it was lacking. The a la carte restaurants always had a wait and the food was just sub par to say the least. The snack bars had the same food every Single day. Boiled hot dogs In cabbage, soggy buns and French fries beef patties that were undercooked and chili that looked like cooked mush. On 2 occasions while sitting near a prep station at the tamarind I witnessed the “cook” physically use his bare unwashed hands to make someone’s club sandwich that must have been ordered for room service since he covered the whole plate in plastic before handing it over to a staff member. Drinks were super watered down and gave me a stomach ache before I could even get a buzz. No one was genuinely nice or helpful. Instead very standoff ish. My husband although he looks Spanish and he is Puerto Rican does not speak very good Spanish and was always spoken to in Spanish although the apparent struggle was heard. I dont know about anyone else but If I wasn’t a Vacation club presentation I’d ask for one but after the 3rd day of hassling us we finally got suckered In. 90 min turned to 2.5 hours to then be given $100 massage voucher. No thanks, my frustration was not worth it. As I sit here in my lounge chair by the pool on my last full day here I seriously can not wait to be home. This might come off mean and disrespectful but if you visit a touristic place of a third world county you shouldn’t be vacationing with locals. Like I said this might be mean since my family is from the Dominican Republic but it’s the truth. There is nothing exclusive about this place and how it got its reviews it did is beyond me. I’m not one to write reviews I’d rAther read about other people’s experiences. But I felt this was a NEED to warn others. I’ve been to their sister property, NOW Sapphire, in Mexico and that place needed more credit, so much better, especially the food. I realized they only target people who say they are from out of the country to be fake to and try to get to know you when in reality they try to gauge your finances. There’s so much more I could say if I really wanted to tear this “resort” apart piece by piece but that’s more wasted time. I really hope this helps other guests looking into staying here an inside view. Honestly spend an extra 2-300 bucks and stay elsewhere. On a positive note the beach was beautiful and enjoyable!

Relaxing

The resort is very nice and relaxing, but the buffet food was terrible, only two of the restaurants served good food. The Spa was the best of the entire resort, the hospitality there was amazing. They don't show anything that has to do with the Dominican culture, they have a dance show that's Americanized. The room cleaning not that great they would fold the dirty towel and put it back.

Not worth the money

Very bad experience here, let’s first by starting out that cheapcaribbean booked my flight for a airport 2 hours form the hotel with a driver that didn’t speak English. Arriving to the resort we were greeted and then taken to a “sunclub” area which was an upgrade we paid for ahead of time and thank god we did (after seeing the regular area) check in wasn’t bad besides the receptionist not speaking enough English to answer any resorts question such as dinner options / extra charges for things. Now to the room very dated and extremely hot. The shower was extremely dirty and the shower head was clogged with mildew. The bed didn’t have a blanket just a sheet however in the closet was a bag with a blanket that looked like it hasn’t been washed in months with random hair all over it. Also the closet in my suite wasn’t even tall enough to hang a dress which was frustrating. First morning after arriving we were woken up to nonstop screaming from 6:15 to 6:45 am which we later found out it was a domestic issue but the resort didn’t even apologize and when you asked staff they just shrugged their shoulders. Now on to the WORST part the resort is open to the locals on the weekend so Friday-Sunday its a zoo, children running around and jumping on people in the pool people fighting and hotel staff doing nothing. I would recommend going to an other place the beach is beautiful but the resort isn’t worth the money. Also the food - it was all the same and it didn’t matter the theme it was always the same choices
