Vacation

Took a trip with my girlfriend and this place was great. I’ve been here before and would definitely recommend. Every night the resort has a show at the theater with a different theme. Afterwords there is a party outside. The food was great and there is a large variety which they change throughout the week. So some days you’ll see Dominican type food, Mexican food, Chinese food, etc, while always having the classic foods in case you’re not feeling a type of food. One thing that I would recommend is to make your reservations to the restaurants when you get to the resort for dinner which people might not know. They have different restaurants at no charge with each specializing in certain foods. You’ll have an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. A lot of stores, excursion shops, bars, a club, great people, and you can even go right outside of the resort to the shops which people will try to bring you into theirs. I’ve read reviews talking about the bad service, but have yet to see that in my 2 experiences.

Americans Not Welcome

Dont get me wrong, overall the hotel and the room were great. The food in the buffets are pretty good, lots of choices and very fresh. The food at the restaurants is terrible, we tried 3 and went to the buffets afterwards. The beach was beautiful, the grounds are kept clean and tidy, the rooms are serviced quickly every day and great AC in the rooms. However; before I went on this vacation, I read some reviews saying that French and Hispanics were welcome but English Americans were not. I thought this was someone being dramatic and off context. Its not at all. The staff will not speak to you, one because they dont understand or two because they just dont want to. You will get constantly ignored at the bar for drinks and even the small things like a coffee refill at breakfast. They will blatantly go out of their way to be rude, look down their noses at you or be unhelpful. We went on the Combination Saona tour, which we were very excited about. Only to not get spoken to the entire time on the trip and minimal English from the tour director. Save yourself some money and dont go on that excursion, its a tourist trap, They take you to a island with a village and walk you up and own the roads in between houses, meanwhile having staged kids sitting around at different areas trying to get you to buy stuff from them. You are told repeated how poor this village is, yet they have mountains of broken beer bottles all over the island. Its all a hoax. A joke. As for the oceans there... they are absolutely beautiful, breathtaking. What they dont tell you is that there is corral in walking distance in the water. There arent any signs warning you of this until you're in the water on top of the corral, while the ocean slams you into it even further. My mother got multiple cuts on her legs and feet while trying to get out of the coral. Once you learn not to swim where the dark spots are, then you're fine. But they should mark that with caution or at least inform the guest. So if you speak Spanish or French, this is your place to go. If you dont speak those, dont even bother going.

Beautiful Resort but awful food

The grounds were beautiful. The activities were very good. However, the food was awful. There are three buffets - food is bland. There are six restaurants that require reservations and you basically can't get reservations. Stopped by the Mexican restaurant one night - 30 OPEN TABLES. Asked if we could dine there. They said NO - it was full. Walked by and hour and half later - STILL 30 OPEN TABLES.

Beach Vacation

We loved the resort. I would not go back again because the resort was way to far from the airport. 144 miles one way is to long. No one spoke English . We felt like we did not belong. We tried to ask questions. But no one could help us because they did not understand. The food was very good. The beach was great. The room was ok , but the service was super for our room. Any time we needed anything we got it right away. The drinks are just ok. I wanted more options but they just had few options. We only went on one trip on our vacation. It was not good. We had to go 122 miles to Punta Cana. The water was not clear. Very green .

Hotel Description

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace: Dive into the Big Top

Prepare yourself for some hardcore rest and relaxation, and make your way to the all-inclusive Viva Dominicus Palace in La Romana, located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. This 83,000-sq-ft resort rests on the island's most pristine, white-sand beach facing the verdant islands of Saona and Catalina.

Should diving be your bag, whether you need a beginner's lesson in the pool or were born with gills, grab a four-night, all-inclusive dive package and explore the Dominican Republic, marine-mammal style. You'll find a wonderland beneath the shimmering indigo surf, as well as horse-eye jacks, sea turtles, spotted eagle rays and brain coral. Wreck divers won't be able to resist the St. George, a 240-ft shipwreck resting 135 ft. below the surface of the water, just off the shore of Viva Dominicus Palace.

Land activities more your style? Grab a catamaran and explore the untouched perfection of Saona or Catalina. Or take some all inclusive dance lessons with that special someone. Looking for something unique? Wander over to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace's sister resort, next door (all restaurants and drinks here a part of your all inclusive package as well), and take a trapeze lesson. The professional, trapeze-training team offers lessons for adults in the afternoon, while the mornings are reserved for children. And if you think you won't get bragging rights for your newfound skills, a circus-themed show (every Friday) allows you to show off your big-top act to an awestruck public.

While you're basking in all that circus glory, why not do it poolside, lounging in a chair, rum punch in hand? Now that you've worked up a good appetite, visit the La Yuca Buffet for some international cuisine, including grilled local fish, with a side of exotic, fresh fruit.

Sleeping too good this morning to get out of your king-sized bed? Pull back the curtains and gaze out at the surf from your Superior Ocean Front room, while Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace serves you a continental breakfast, room-service style.
