Westin and Cheap Caribbean
Had a great time on vacation. Everything was perfect. This is the first time i booked a trip online. I gave it a try because my usual travel agent couldn't get me the ocean view room i wanted. The purchase was easy even for me. I am not good on computers. I didn't eat at the restaurants at the hotel much because there are many choices out on the town. Room was clean and had a great view. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I would recommend Westin Grand Cayman and Cheap Caribbean to anyone.
If you are going to the Cayman Islands then you know it is going to be expensive, and the Westin is on the pricer side. However, the Westin is amazing. The service is fantastic. Thank you Carey. If I even thought of something, someone was there to get it for me. The place is very clean (recently renovated). The pool (and "in pool bar") is big and very nice. Lots of seating. The best part of the Westin is the beach and isn't that why a lot of people go? I was trying to decide between the Marriott and the Westin. I chose the Westin because a lot of the reviews talked about how much better the beach was at the Westin. That was SO true. Big, long, wide beach with plenty of chairs. There is a watersports company (Red Sail) right on premise. It could not be more convenient. They also had games for the kids each day, a movie night on the beach and some kind of outdoor food theme as well. In terms of activities, I strongly recommend the Red Sail Sunset cruise to the stingrays. This is the best way to go (in my opinion) because it is not so hot, much less crowded, and you get a sunset sail, with appetizers. It doesn't get any better. Other great tours to do are to swim with the Dolphins and the Turtle center right across the street from the Dolphins. We did the Royal Swim at Dolphin Discovery. You get 2 dolphins with that package. Try to go earlier in the AM on a day the cruise ships are not there, if possible. In terms of trying to keep costs down, I would eat more in the coffee shop as much as possible. Again, a lunch for 6 is easily $150. It took me 2 days to learn that they INCLUDE the tip in the bill so the first 2 days, the wait staff got a NICE tip. Cheap Caribbean is a fantastic company. This is the 2nd time I have used them and highly recommend their services. Thank you Debbie. Where we were was very safe. You can easily take the public bus. It runs very often and is $2.5 US per person and is really the same as the taxis in terms of vehicle. In terms of eating, I recommend Peppers. It is a place for locals, but also a lot of tourists. Great Caribbean food. Reasonably priced. For fancier, try the Wharf for nice on the water seafood. Grand Cayman is all that it is cracked up to be.

Be careful to spend your honeymoon here
My husband and I went here for our Honeymoon and used the Westin's registry for wedding gifts.
One of our very sweet friends purchased Dinner in the Sands. When we scheduled the dinner, we were told it was NOT a resort credit and it was specifically for this experience. We were excited and it seemed beautiful!
We scheduled the dinner and absolutely enjoyed the experience. The waiter brought us out a second bottle of wine WITHOUT us choosing it, brought out desert WITHOUT us choosing or even asking for it. We assumed that this purchase was completely covered. Normally, waiters ASK if you want something if you have to BUY it!
Come to find out... we were charged for everything AND the gift our friend purchased for us was a RESORT CREDIT only. The hotel did not try to make things right and said the honeymoon registry was a third party so basically.. good luck. On top of that, the charges were incorrect and $100 SHORT. They again told us there is nothing they can do. The registry is on the Westin's website and associated specifically with them however no one seems to know how it works.
Terribly disappointed in the service at this hotel and the service. For our honeymoon you would think they would do everything they can to make it special and they did not care one bit. If you want top service, choose another hotel.

How close to island's activities and nitelife is the Westin Casurian located?10 answers
My best friend and I are planning on going to the Caymans this summer, we are both single ladies who enjoy many activiites, site seeing and nitelife., Thinking about staying at Westin Casurian

There are some great restaurants and shops across the street from the resort. Also, there are activities and nightlife a short cab ride away.
KristinCC
Just returned a week ago, had a great time. Casura is a Good hotel for relaxation but you will need a car to get to Georgetown about 5 mi. there are some places near the hotel for nitelife but still a walk of about 20 min. There is an Avis rental desk at the hotel where I got a very fair price. Cab fare is 10 - 20 each way to most of the places you will want to go
Travelman
I would not suggest it for the money....there are many nicer places for less money up and down seven mile beach. The beaches there are the BEST I have ever seen.
heidy
The Westin was great. You can take the public busses all along the 7 mile beach road for $2.50 per person and right into Georgetown. We will stay here again.
klinemw
Everything is close. You will be 3-4 miles away. Use the city buses.2.5 American each way. Safe and easy.
bellalayna
Everything is fairly close however you are better off staying closer to town ie Marriott
Eva22
There is some entertainment in the hotel, and a few restaurants across the street, but Georgetown, where most of the restaurants and virtually all the bars, etc. are is 4-5 miles away. Unfortunately, cabs are expensive so $16 each way. Local van "buses" run frequently and cost $2.50 US per person each way.
vjpj
The Westin is a easy and inexpensive ride on the bus to most places. The hotel itself is more laid back. I would highly recommend the safari tour to see the island. Have a great time.
beachbum216
You'll find good restaurants, and 1 Night bar that close at 12:30 pm, remember is a lay back island to relax, during day time you have water sports.
Jaquie
The Westin Casuarina is in the middle of 7 mile beach and is not close to anything but the beach. There are other hotels and some restaurants nearby, but you would probably have to take a taxi to get to most places, and the taxis are expensive.

general question2 answers
Hi,
I'd had book a vacation package through expedia from 7/31/12 thru 8/6/12. I would like to know if there's a shuttle bus provided by Westin Casuarina Resort that would pick me up from George town airport or do I have to take a cab to the resort. Also, is food and drink cover with the vacation package as long as I am in the resort?
Thank you in advance,
DD

Seatle, WA
The best way is to take a cab that is $ 24 USA and they are like vans, the package doesn't include food nor drinks, is a little more expensive than here and be aware they convert everything to CI$ cayman island dollars is like the EURO 1$ CI is 1.25 $ USA
Jaquie
You have to take a taxi from and to the airport. The cost is $23.50 American dollars each way for 2 people. The taxis charge by zone and the government sets the cost, the minimum being $8.00 American for 2 people even if only a few blocks.
Unless you have an all-inclusive deal, which I am not sure they offer, you have to pay for everything.

Is the beach rocky or full of seaweed? I want great swimming above all. Is the beach right off the hotel?7 answers

Annie
The resort is located on Seven Mile Beach and provides guests with direct access to one of the most famous beaches in the world. The resort does also have swimming pools.
CoryCC
Yes beach is right off hotel. Last year no seaweed fantastic swimming we only came out of water when it rained. Just 15 min. One day only.this water is now my screen saver and view from hotel is on my I pad that's how beautiful it is there.
AnnieB
The beach is amazing and right at the hotel it is easy to wade and swim. Their are virtually no waves and the water has 20 plus ft visibilty
Bomba
The beach is not rocky. Occasionally has palms from trees on it but staff cleans everything early in morning. No seaweed in the sea. Yes, the beach is right off the hotel.
Anne42
We have gone to the Westin at Grand Cayman 3 times. Most recently was 5-26-14. The beach is the #1 reason for us continuing to return. It is the softest whitest sand. Their beach area is immediately out the back door next to the pool area. There is NO seaweed anywhere. No rocks on the beach either. The water is extremely buoyant so you cannot sink. My wife doesn't swim. She feels very safe floating in 15 feet deep water.
Denny
There were no rocks to speak of, other than a few piles here and there in the water for small fish to congregate at and for snorkelers to see. And there was absolutely no seaweed! You walk from your room....through the property and directly onto the beach! It's a great place. Also, there weren't any waves....just ripples....in the clearest water!
sandstroller47
Its all soft white sand, with an extremely few hamburger size smooth rocks here and there. Like a group of rocks every 50 to 70 feet apart. No big deal.

Has the cayman island been affected by the Hurricane Irma?3 answers
2 years, 27 months ago
Sdare
We arrived the day before Irma hit north of the island. The worst we saw was rough surf for a day or two and some cloudy skies. Grand Cayman seems like a great protected spot. Even the day we couldn't swim or do water sports, it was still gorgeous! So, yes, the water gets affected and, in turn can cause cancellations of water sports, and we had to be careful with the complimentary water bottle supply, since it was coming out of Florida, who was hit by the storm, but overall we were just fine. Many locals told us they had Floridians visiting to wait out the storm.
NJTravelGirl
Not that I saw. I think the hurricane missed this island, but there is still a lot of rain right now since it is hurricane season.
vacationme
Actually, the island and infrastructure have not been affected by the recent hurricanes. A tropical storm developed over the island in late October with lots of rain and 40 mph winds. Otherwise, this paradise was unscathed.
