Had a Great Time

We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. Aside from a small card On the dresser stating happy anniversary it was unrecognized by the resort. Other places we have stayed have done some nice little extras for us like a banner on the door, wine, Rose petals on the bed, etc. The rooms were comfortable. Reservations are not accepted anywhere. Restaurants open at 6:30 so you need to get in line by 5:45 to assure you get in for the first seating and then if you are not admitted then, you take a pager for the 8:00 seating. 2 restaurants you have to wait outside. Thankfully the weather was good. The buffet was very good and the staff attentive. One night we had dinner there and we were entertained by a musician. The music was outstanding. We enjoyed our daily breakfasts at the buffet and the grill and lunch buffets for lunch. Nice variety but stayed the same. Not an issue as I always have my favorites. Beverages were attended to quickly in the lunch buffet. Staff was friendly as well. The beach was nice but the winds kick up the sand and sometimes it pelted us enough to make us head to the pool! The fun and music at the pool kept us entertained. We had a great visit.

Overrated Property

Listed as a luxury all inclusive, Cheap Caribbean’s customer service representative steered my to the Riu adults only. I took the recommendation but was disappointed. Hotel is dated. Hallways were musty smelling. View was great from our room but the mattress was a canoe. Staff was god and polite but service was not on par with other resorts. We hated having to exchange a card for a towel and not being permitted to get two towels to go to the beach or pool. Little things like that don’t happen at higher end properties. Food was substandard. Krystal is the “nicest” restaurant and where we had our worst meal. Creamy lobster risotto wasn’t creamy and the lobster was over cooked and tough. Wife didn’t eat more than a few bites. Lines started at 6pm for 6:30 seatings. Nobody wants to stand in line for dinner and if you show up at 6:30 when they open you can’t get in for over an hour unless you goto the buffet. That turned out to be the best option oddly. Food was mostly on par with a roadside buffet place with a couple exceptions. Nobody takes reservations so it’s a cattle call. Plenty of week/sweet drinks but can’t find a cocktail at any of the bars. Beach staff was great and tried to find covered seating for customers but they are all claimed by 9am. Get there early and be ready for the wind. Great beach but wind kicked up sand that could be a drag and pushed folks for cover a couple times a day. Island was great and we ate dinners at other properties or restraints instead of the included dinners. We will go back to Aruba but not this property. A decent budget option but NOT a value for the price or “luxury” property.

What a great vacation!

2nd year in a row in Aruba. The resort is very nice and it is impressive that so many people work to keep this place clean every day. Our room, as at most all inclusives we have been to, could use an update. It was, however, very clean. The mini bar is an aweaome touch and the balconies all have the beautiful view. We upgraded to a jr suite type thing and it was huge. We had great service everywhere. Bars. Shout out to Miguel at the pool!! The buffet each day has quality, good food. That was the only place the servers were not WONDERFUL, but huge selection and delicious. While the a la carte restaurants had great food, we did not like that there were only 23 choices at each place. We only did Rimini and the Steakhouse but such limited choices. I do not prefer big resorts like this mostly because of the chairs at the pool situation. If you did not save a chair at the pool by 7 30, you were not getting one. I hate that!! The pool is gorgeous and lots of chairs on the beach but UGH at the pool. Shops are great . . Try Aruba Aloe!! Went to the mall area and ate at Giannis one night. We rented a Jeep one day and explored the other side of the island. Soooo cool!! We had a great vacation and LOVE Aruba, but would likely choose a smaller resort again!!

What a great vacation! What a great vacation!

Ehh!

First off I want to say we had a great time in Aruba! However we would not recommend the riu to friends or family. Some of the staff was amazing! Others were just plain rude. you needed to be downstairs and waiting on line before 6:30 to even eat at any of the restaurants besides the buffet. Which is absolutely ridiculous when the pools close at 6. The food was good though. We had an amazing view from our room of the pools and ocean. But they’re building something next door. So the construction would wake us up in the morning. But once the building is up you won’t be able to see the view that we did. We want to go back to Aruba already, but we definitely will not be staying at the Riu!!!
