Don't Go

The room was a joke. The air conditioner did not work. The room was not ready for guests. There was not soap, towels, water... you get the picture. The stafff did not speak English. There was only food available during certain times. There were flies and bugs on the food in the buffet area. The room setup was really weird. The shower did not have hot water. The beach - You had to ride a shuttle to the beach and you had to leave by 5:30. The beach was nice and they had a bar and food there. The website was misleading.

Great value in a beautiful setting

The Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills is a beautiful, sprawling resort with amazing views set in the foothills behind La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. It is not super luxurious but it is comfortable in a rustic way. The staff are nice, friendly and make an effort, although service can be a little haphazard. The beach is OK but this is not the place to visit for a beach vacation. The group of adults only pools set among lush foliage provide a lovely sanctuary. The weakest element of this hotel is the food. The buffet is mediocre as is the Italian. The Brazilian is better and the casual food from the bars is good enough. The best restaurant for quality of food is the Japanese. All the included wine is pretty awful and clearly not stored well. Wine to buy is limited and again, clearly not stored well. Trying to reserve a table at the speciality restaurants is also a bit of a trial. If you are traveling without children, I recommend staying on the top floor of building 5 or 6 for a thatched vaulted ceiling and a view down the valley to the sea. Also bring a reusable water bottle as the hotel is eco friendly and provides your room with a gallon and no small bottles. Overall, a wonderful, relaxing experience which was great value for money.

Great deal

The resort is very well taken care of and the service is EXCELLENT. The only reason they got 3 stars: For the beach/pool - the beach is about a 20 min drive away, so you have to take a shuttle to get there and back, so it's more like an excursion instead of relaxation time For the dining options - you have to make reservations at the majority of the restaurants on the resort and so we didn't get try any of them, except for the non-reservation buffets - which were OK, but would have preferred another option Also, they have an adults only pool and adults only dining - which made for a super relaxing stay - they have adults only buildings, too, so that was nice!! And each room has a balcony that's great for your morning coffee... and the spa is so AMAZING!! The pricing was reasonable and the masseuses were very accommodating - the whole area was gorgeous, too, because they have you outside, overlooking some really pretty scenery - I'd highly recommend the spa services...

Relaxing and Easy Going

My boyfriend and I booked Grand Sirenis last minute and it was AMAZING. We felt like we were living in the jungle, with a side of luxury (or luxury with a side of jungle?). All of the employees were amazing, from the wait staff at the restaurants to the shuttle drivers, everyone was friendly and accommodating. We went into this trip with little planned except to relax. Upon arriving, we were told we would need to make reservations for any of the a la cart restaurants. We booked two: Hibachi and Italian. Hibachi was good, but Italian was less than. I personally preferred all the meals at the buffet over the two a la cart meals we went to. The beach is a quick shuttle ride away, and don't worry, you can bring booze in the van with you. :) There is a bar at the beach (which serves much stronger drinks than the pool bars) along with sprawling views of mountains. The only "negative" things I would have to say is that if you don't take the shuttle to travel between meals and your room, there's a lot of walking....up or down big hills. This was NOT negative for my boyfriend and I as we enjoyed taking in the nature and walking off the huge meals we were eating, but I did hear others complain about this. I felt it was part of the experience. The other comment I would make is that the service at the pool (the adults only infinity pool) had very slow service if you ordered a drink from your lounge chair. Annoying to have to go up to the bar, but not a big deal. I would recommend Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills to anyone who loves nature, relaxing pools, and delicious food! There were also many families there and there is a family friendly pool (we only went to the adults only pool by our building). There are also daily activities for both kids and adults such as hiking, bingo, yoga, etc.
