PURE BLISS

This trip was incredible from start to finish! The second we arrived, we were greeted by a very kind and friendly staff that sat us down and handed us champagne! We went over the details of our reservation and were taken to our room. We asked to have one large king bed instead of two double beds, but they just pushed two beds together and put a sheet over them... kind of hard to cuddle when their is a crack in the middle of the bed, but we didn't spend much time in our room anyway. Other than that, the room was very clean and the air conditioner worked really well. We opted for the Sun Club and our mini fridge was constantly restocked throughout the trip. We locked our phones away for a majority of the trip, but the wifi in our room was excellent, which is another great perk of the Sun Club. During the duration of our trip, we went to the breakfast spot on the beach every morning. It really was the most romantic and stunning part of our trip. After breakfast, we were able to walk right onto the beach. The Sun Club has a specific spot you have access to where you are served drinks whenever you want and the staff there is very quick and kind. (The nearly constant barrage of off-resort sales people asking if you wanted to buy their goods was the only drawback of the trip. They went from nice to not nice VERY quick.) The restaurants were incredible. Gohan was def our favorite. The variation of food was nice, too. The service really is outstanding. Every single person that worked for the resort was kind and seemed to genuinely care about your wants. The pools were SUPER clean and even during peak hours! Not once did we feel overwhelmed by the amount of people at the resort. There are so many different places to explore, it really doesn't ever feel crowded. The entertainment at night was .. OK, but there was so much relaxing to be done it wasn't really our priority anyway! After all was said and done, we are super happy with our experience and are looking forward to our return to Sunscape resort.

Great value!

For the price, that was a great resort. A solid 4 stars. Food was good, some restaurants better than others. The daily buffets were excellent. Drinks were tasty and plentiful. We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the excursions and the people in DR. Would totally go again. One piece of advice... we flew into Santiago, it would have been better to fly into puerto plata. Added 2 hours each way to our travel time. Otherwise, can't be beat! And...purchase the sun club upgrade. Totally worth it!

Good value

This is one place where you be treated as a "Rich Vacationer".. This is how you will be viewed. The countless vendors on the beach will pester you 5 times per day each and there are 50 of them. They walk the beach from 9am till 4:30pm selling a bunch of dollar store type items, that they tell you are presious stone jewelry only found in the Dominican. They sell everything from cups to sunglasses to carved wooden horse heads. The very sad part is that they are so nice and pleasant to you Until you don't purchase something, then their true personalitys come out! For the price we went for, I would go back. It's a great place for windsurfing and Kite surfing. There is a river that flows into the bay where the beach is. After a hard rain it clouds the water for a day or two. We've been to many different resorts all over the Dominican and the food here is average or less. Don't get me wrong your not gonna starve and there are plenty of choices. If you find a price that's cheaper than the rest, and you like sun and sand, give it a shot.

Mediocre

This is definitely a value resort. It’s very pretty in terms of facility. The rooms are ample sized and clean. The buildings are visually reminiscent of Greece and Ssntoroni. The three pools are very pretty. The two smaller ones have almost zero seating so it makes little sense to try to go there at all unless you’re alone or just taking a dip. The main pool is very nice and clean. Sometimes the blasting music is not very relaxing but sometimes it’s fun. The swim up bar is nice but probably to small for very crowded weeks. A few of the bartenders were incredibly terrific and made the experience really enjoyable. The liquor is definitely bottom shelf but they poor freely and there’s is a slushy machine with a pink and yellow iced slush they mix with whatever you want. It gets really loud and crowded on Saturday and Sunday with weekend travelers and families and corporate groups. We had a weird experience in our room with the AC. It smelled like paint thinner and something dead and it took four phone calls and all day to have anyone come look and then they sent housekeeping with a deodorizer bottle and a rag. We finally got maintenance and he said he couldn’t help. Our consorted offered a room change but we were next door to my sons and they us nowhere to move us all. Eventually after 36 hours the smell subsided. The beach is very disappointing. No white sand. No blue water. Roped off small swimming area. And tons of vendors assaulting you the ENTIRE time you are there! We never went there to relax or swim. We walked through three times and the only enjoyable time was at 9 at night and even then there was a private wedding so it was loud and crowded. Finally, the food is way below par. I’m not sure if they serve what they think is American food or they are being cheap but breakfast and munch buffet is full of soggy options, I ripe or overuse fruit (four kinds max)and too many potatoes in the form of boiled, oat boiled, soggy hash browned, peeled boiled and French fries. Weird looking hamburgers and floppy hot dogs round out the meats. There is some overdone chicken sometimes and one day we say wings but we never got any. The three dinner sit down restaurants had beautiful ambience but very slow service and no idea what authentic Asian or Italian food tastes like. Overall it was a nice break from December in america and we were very grateful to be able to be in the Dominican. The staff are so welcoming and sweet and it’s a beautiful country. However I would pay $1000 more for a better beach and food! Also if you fly in fly to puerto Plata airport because Santiago is around two hours away through mountains and awful terrible “roads”. People threw up on drive in and drive out was just as bad!
